Here Comes the Judge

Pontiac’s “The Judge” was a special options package available for the
1969 Pontiac GTO, with limited availability extending into 1970 and 1971.
This iconic muscle car came standard with the 366-horsepower Ram Air
III engine, with an even more powerful 370-horsepower Ram Air IV engine
offered as an option.
The GTO Judge was introduced to
compete directly with the rising
popularity of the Plymouth Road
Runner. Pontiac aimed to deliver a highperformance yet affordable muscle car,
and The Judge fit the bill perfectly.
The name “The Judge” was credited to John DeLorean, then president of
Pontiac, who drew inspiration from the popular Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In
skit “Here comes the Judge!”
In spite of how impressive the styling and performance was for The
Judge, it only lasted 3 years. By 1971, the muscle car market was facing
challenges due to rising insurance costs and stricter emission regulations.
The 366 horsepower engine got 9.14 MPG and many consumers wanted
better efficiency, leading to the discontinuation of The Judge after the
1971 model year.

CAR CRUISE AT SUMMIT

In recent years, I have covered about fifty automotive
events each year. The size and the main feature of each one
varies, and I find that variety just might be what attracts
me the most. Summit Racing Equipment in Tallmadge
entertains numerous car groups throughout the year. And
the facility is pretty much perfect with easy highway
access and its huge parking lots.

Antron Brown – Top Fuel Dragster

Further west in Ohio, Summit Motorsports Park is equally
welcoming to an amazing variety of automotive events. I
have traveled to both locations many times. Yet, last June I
came across an event I had not previously been aware of.
Summit Racing Equipment had announced a Meet & Greet
with some of the NHRA Teams that would be competing
at Summit Motorsports Park later in the week. This would
be in conjunction with an open invitation Car Cruise. How
much better could it get?
Pro Stock racer, Greg Anderson had his Hendrick Cars
Camaro on site. Tim Wilkerson & Paul Lee were there
with their Top Fuel funny cars. The Top Fuel dragsters
of Antron Brown and Clay Millican were on display too.
Add in the race cars of Dallas Glenn and Mark Pawuk and
there was more than enough to see making this a more than
worthwhile excursion.

Greg Anderson – Pro Stock

A big crowd gathered around Paul Lee’s crew as they fired
up their nitro burning funny car. Those who had never
experienced the impact nitro fumes have on our eyes and
respiratory systems were taken aback once they recovered
from the initial screaming explosion from the exhaust.
That’s always interesting to watch from the background!
This was a relaxed but up close and personal experience
that cannot be had during a normal NHRA National event.
It was good stuff for sure. I even spotted Clay Millican
taking photos of the activities!
GM, MOPAR and Mercury muscle were parked in part
of the side lot. Another 50-75 “cruisers” were staged on
the west lot. It was a nice mix that would have made an
excellent selection at any weeknight show.
Considering this event was kind of co-hosted by two of
Cruisin’ Times Magazine advertising partners, I’ll be
watching to see if it happens again in 2024. This was
something very kool and not too far from home either.

ur car club officially started in 1986 when a group of
car enthusiasts got together and formed the Rock-NRoll Capital Street Machines Car Club holding their first
car show on Memorial Day 1987. At that time Cleveland
was in the planning stages of becoming the Rock-N-Roll
Capital due to its building the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame
in downtown Cleveland. The members wanting the name
to encompass the entire Cleveland area and also wanting
to represent the fact that it is a car club, added the words
“Street Machines” to its name. Thus The Rock-N-Roll
Capital Street Machines Car Club was born! Since then
we have grown from a small group of members hosting a
car show attracting around 100 cars behind Pal’s Drive-In
located in Bedford Hts., to a much larger group of members
hosting a car show attracting up to 500 cars every Tuesday
evening from May through September on Enterprise
Parkway in Solon!
One of the many activities our club takes part in yearly is
the Summit AutoRama Piston Powered Car Show at the
IX Center. This year our display will feature 6 classic cars

representing the years from 1921 to 1966. Other activities we
participate in are car cruises to auto museums (always included
is a stop at one of the area’s fine restaurants), various car
shows hosted by other local car clubs, club picnics, clambakes
and always ending the year with a holiday party.
Starting from the first Tuesday in May through the last
Tuesday in September we are one of the only car clubs
in Ohio to host a weekly car cruise from 4PM-8PM. We
feature theme nights, a DJ, food vendors, door prizes and
a 50/50 raffle . For just $1 registration fee you can have
a chance to win a beautiful plaque from one of our many
great sponsors and from our club. We have out-of- town
businessmen who plan their business trips so they can be
in Solon on Tuesday nights. We even had a couple from
Australia, traveling cross-country, stop by because they
were told this is a stop they need to make while on their
trip. For many years our club has been voted the #1 large
weekly cruise in the Cruisin’ Times Magazine survey. On
a beautiful summer night, if it’s Tuesday and you love cars,
you’ve got to be in Solon!

ROCK-N-ROLL CAPITAL STREET MACHINES

Once a year on a Tuesday we dedicate the evening to a
charity the club voted upon earlier in the year. Several
of these charities in the past were Make-A-Wish, Ronald
McDonald House and Fisher House for Veterans.
For the past several years our charity has been Camp
Quality Ohio. Camp Quality Ohio is an organization
which provides free year-round support activities for
the families with children who have cancer and blood
disorders. Included in these activities is a one week long
summer camp for these children. Our Corvette Donation
Night Benefit Car Show this year is on August 6. It will
feature live entertainment by Ricky and the Rockets, food
trucks, numerous raffles with cash prizes totaling $3,000
and over 50 awards! Also this year we will be holding
a special raffle to win a mini gas powered Corvette GoKart. Last year our club members, with the help of all
our sponsors, food vendors and volunteers from Camp
Quality/Ohio, raised $17,000 for this great charity! This
year we are on track to do even better!!! See our ad in the

Capital Street Machines, during car shows it sponsors, has exclusive
control over this lot. The RNRCSM reserves the right to establish
and enforce all rules to provide an orderly and safe environment
for the participants and spectators, including but not limited
to, reserving and assigning spaces, prohibition of pets, alcoholic
beverages, strollers and bicycles between cars, burnouts, etc.
Anyone failing to comply to our rules will be asked to leave our
cruise. Failure to leave our cruise will unfortunately result in our
calling the Solon Police Department for assistance.

1935 Ford 5 Window Coupe (Model 48), 2 tone blue/grey with fenders matching the interior, and
rumble seat. Side engine compartment panels are included, but not shown. A Southern California
hot rod up until late Spring of 2015. Vehicle is a rolling chassis minus the flathead V-8, T-5
transmission, and drive shaft, as they are in the process of being rebuilt for a new hotrod project.
Built in 2010. it has a Henry Ford steel body, rust free, coming from a CA dry environment. Stock
frame, with a Ford 8”/ 3.50 ratio (from a Grenada I believe), ”Posie” rear suspension (leaf springs,
shocks and anti sway bar), and a Mustang II front end with chrome coils and shocks. The vehicle
is setup with a TBI EFI fuel system with Mega Squirt II software on a laptop that handled 2 1988 Ford Escort TBI’s (a custom 2010 EFI setup) that was on the Flathead V-8 ( minimal work
is needed for a newer up to date EFI setup), Southern Air AC, and a reinforced trans mount for
a modern transmission (stick or automatic). Build completion was in 2010, and a CA appraisal
(comes with sale) had the vehicle valued at $44,000. The vehicle just needs either a Chevy 350 or
a Ford 302 V8, including a manual or automatic transmission, radiator, correct engine mounts and
a driveshaft for a nice cruiser. If you want to install your own flathead,
I’ll include the radiator and intake manifold with the 2 -1988 Ford Escort
TBI’s that it was running with, so only a T-5 trans or a Ford C4 automatic
with an adapter kit and a drive shaft is needed to be up and running.
With the current stock frame, this vehicle is meant as a cruiser and
NOT as a muscle machine. A muscle machine would require a new high
