Green County, Giheung in Yongin is the largest golf village in Korea. As a suburban housing complex combining residence and leisure, the golf village is free from the problem of convenience, safety and transportation, as well as the limit of a common country house or summer village. This space is divided into Pine House and Hilltop House. Pine House, which is vocative of French garden, has introduced the European design and created a formal garden considering the form and location of the building. The cental garden is the visual focus being observed from the main entrance and has earned an European look through parterre, European pergola and portrait sculptures. European hand-railing and formative pergola in an inner space reflect a balcony of Europe. Hilltop House, a noble, suburban residential complex, has been created with the theme of a European-style public area, household garden and castle wall. Its central garden gives an European atmosphere using an arbor, parterre and ornamental basin, which have been also used on the resting area in the corner space. Yew trees planted on the each terrace form a unified exterior, and a pebble pavement in front of a planter provides a space variable according to the taste of each household. The rooftop park achieves unity by standardized yew trees, and parterre makes a visual landscape. Green county suggests a formal garden of Europe, making the best of the location of being near a golf course, where one can enjoy the European sport surrounded by nature.

‘Dongil HighvilF in Buldang, Cheonan is regarded the most successful realization of ‘well-being culture’, which is spreading throughout the whole society, as well as the one best reflecting the recent housing market. It meets the public approval by holding the nature-friendly elements admired by urban populations, such as green fields and warmth of hometown. Convenience and nature-friendliness are concretely reflected in the building interior and complex structure. First, there is the differentiated landscape. With the parking lot placed underground, its displays the beauty by harmonizing four-seasonal ‘theme park’ of dense forest, strolling path and brooklet that circulates through the complex. The first floor pilotis shortens the traffic line between the buildings, and the entrances of which take a style of a hotel lobby by heightening the ceilings. Utilizing the slope, the underground parking lot has been designed as deck. And the windows at several areas transformed the dark and damp underground into a pleasant space. Above all things, it doubles the bond and familiarity among neighbors through a community center, brooklet, golf practice course and hiking road.

Major elements of Bukhansan(Mt.j, which are the moon, mountain, castle, tree, river, flower, bird, animal and insect, were applied to a playground, theme garden and resting space to make a theme space. Themed floor plan, pavement and moving wall brought the residents spacial excitement and historical/natural imagination. Etched copper plates and cracked tiles provide amusement in detail, and the same theme was used on a retaining wall, graphic, fine arts, ornaments and sign.

Dongbu Centreville in Daechi-dong, which reflects distinctiveness of 21th century’s new residential space, has been planned aiming at a bio-friendly(Green Network), resource / energy-friendly(Blue Network) and human-friendly complex(Pedestrian Network). Roof-top(stepping-stone) afforestation was conducted for the move of living creatures, and yew tree, cherry tree, Japanese cornel dogwood, bridal wreath and winged euonymus were planted as their food. We created wetland to provide habitation for life and build diverse vegetation(aquatic, waterside and land), and introduced rainwater utilization system to save on resource & energy and prevent water pollution. Eco-Corrior. overlapped with the main walking path, created Green Way, where nature and human harmonize, and Dyna-track for resident’s well-being life.

Concept for Planting plans
Samsung Raemian in Munjeong-dong pursues such housing complex in the luxuriant green fields by planting plenty of native plants and trees. The complex is like a park in the forest by connecting surrounding parks. Aesthetic scenery has been created by planting symbolic trees and those for designs in the entrance and theme parks. Moreover, orientational and seasonal touch is considered for the design by planting roadside trees along the moving lines of vehicles and pedestrians.

Pyeongchang Hills held many difficulties from design to construction phase because of its limited size. rlhe designer placed importance on the connectivity with surrounding green areas, moderating luxuriant design and planting trees suitable for a comfortable space. According to the tastes of the occupants, crape myrtle, pine, maple and bamboo were selected, which were reduced and introduced into the space for unity and dignity. Simple ground covers give a seasonal feel. High-grade ornamental elements in the peaceful atmosphere provide elegance and visual amusement. Richly planted on both sides of the parking lot entrance are green bamboo trees, and created inside the complex beyond the main road is a resting place planted with figurative pine and maple. The pines between the buildings harmonize with a low story structure. Each resting space has custom-made benches and tables of the same air. Large trees offer shades in the furthest reaches of a deck-type rest place, which is linked with a putting practice ground utilizing the pilotis and resting area for various people. The playground has been downsized considering the age of the residents, and instead the resting space with maple and crape myrtle has been created more spaciously, heightening the spatial efficiency. Trees softens the sharp comers of each building, and a small resting space created in front offer different views of garden.

In the front border area of Daelim Apartment Complex, Seocho 1st is a stepped garden composed of pine, maple and Japanese apricot for an improved view. The entry ground has the element of a landmark that emphasizes its position as a main entrance area, where is planted mainly with red maple. Longevity ground has been planned as a space that provides the residents and elderly with a pastime, improvement of physical strength and the atmosphere of the hometown. Its main vegetation consists of Korean hornbeam, zelkova and ground covers. Occupying the central area open to each building, the amusement ground secures the balance and makes a creative and versatile space added by the function of a gathering space. Arbor ground on the node of traffic patterns provides locality and sights to see. Also, being used for both walking and driving, the section induces the speed of a vehicle with its pattern and texture of the floor pavement. Buffer and screen planting at the rear border subdues the overwhelming artificial structures through the voluminous green zone and appropriate separation from the outside. This space is mainly planted with pine, white pine and white birch.

Basic Direction of Landscape Design
Through specialized design, it aims to realize ‘a community with overflowing heart’ pursued by Daelim e-Pyeonhan Sesang. There are well-being plan for a living space guiding the residents to healthy exercise and play culture and a green-based plan for luxuriousness, nature-friendly image and closeness. We searched for concrete methods to actualize the former plan by creating resting space for healthy exercise & play, meditation & yoga and a walking path, and the later one by an ecological stream, biotope, village forest and wall & lateral afforestation.
Planting Plan
Group planted large red pines reinforce the feeling of entrance along with the landscape. As for the street trees, row planting of zelkova and Japanese cherry provide pleasantness to a pedestrian. Main trees were selected by a space; arbor trees, flowering trees and fruiting trees such as persimmons and Japanese cornel dogwood. On the border, privacy was secured by blocking the view with species of strong verticality like pitch pine, layered stone and stepped garden.

Overall traffic flow plan based on the level difference of the complex is utilized as a strong landscape image. Guided by lamps, symbolic pedestrian mall is connected to each space, creating different vistas according to level. The space includes a resting place and themed spaces of luxuriant images. Raemian provides its residents with a pleasant environment by creating an open space with the organic connection of exercising, playing spaces and themed square.

Kangdong Hyundai Hometown makes pleasing and convenient environment for pedestrians by dividing the moving lines of vehicles and pedestrians and lowering bumps and lamps. Greenery through all seasons is guaranteed through proper allocation by using shadow analysis. For roadside trees, air-purifying trees have been introduced so that more clean environment can be created for the complex. Pedestrian moving lines have been simplified by connecting children playground, central square, parks, exercising facility for residents as the major walking lines. This fully gives various kinds of experiences to the pedestrians. Likewise, diverse views have been achieved for pedestrian moving lines and walking path thanks to rhythmical curves.
Furthermore, micro-climate such as humidity within the complex can be adjusted and water is purified naturally by introducing air-purifying plants. Traditional patterns and facilities that are harmonious with the nature add such visual aesthetics. Wind is refreshing and pleasing since the tees are air-purifying ones and the planting design adopts screen-planting and planting in the side walls. This is efficient in blocking seasonal northwesterly wind. Environment-friendly pedestrian area is made with stepping stones and clay bricks. Wooden square pavilion is arranged to give comfortable resting space within the nature. Stone-made ornamental partition that goes well with the green space is installed beside the pedestrian area so that visual pleasure created from green tees can be obtained.

The design focuses on the ecological residence unified with nature. High green rate has been secured through the minimized above ground parking lot, afforestation of the building walls and spatial connection by the stepping stones. Bio-top has been formed by the moundings on the green area, three dimensional design, wild flowers and shrubs.
It is a human-centered plan. Numbers of entering vehicles has been minimized and theme trees has been planted for a pleasant environment to walk. We have reduced the overwhelming feel of the building, designed a human-scale pilotis and planned a space and traffic flow suiting diverse human behavior.
It is a cultural complex. With the concept of a multiplex open space, World square, which organically unifies meeting, event, amusement, rest, education and gathering, is expected to be used as a space of communication among residents. A desolate space between the eastern walls has been screened by the trees and utilized as a community space made of the square of fragrance, garden of meditation and pocket rest area.

Maintenance, convenience, amusement, environment-friendliness, ecology. These words are overused in landscape design, but hard to be satisfied. Art Hill in Bangbae, which took 3 years of planning, approaches from the user’s point of view. The design is economical; the residents share the maintenance expense of water landscape facility and broad green area, which easily done despite of the traditional form. Though many suggestions and several changes in design failed to deliver the original concept of reflecting Umyeonsan(Mt), the locality is emphasized and the fundamental principle ramains: material selection creating a friendly atmosphere, convenience in maintenance, proper arrangement of resting place. Entry square, central square and symbolic pillars are the axis of the land, connecting the levels of eight meter difference, yew trees Figurative planting Row-planted yew trees at the entry square accentuate the typical image of the entrance and guide the vision and traffic flow. The central square, a gathering space of residents, takes the form of a stand and used for various events. The most enticing space is the water space. Water landscape also has adopted the traditional and envir onmental design, constructing a pond made of square stones and symbolized turtle heading toward the water with a mounding and natural stone. A new form of play facility was introduced unlike the other residential spaces. Art Hill, Bangbae will evolve from a conceptual space of a design phase only by the residents.

It is to provide residence where sense of nature abounds. Lush green fields close to the borderline of the complex, spacious landscape gardening at the entrance, and the difference in the height of the complex should create diverse feel to the overall view.
It chose indirect ways to give highlight to the surrounding facilities as well as spatial formation of trees rather than building large-scale structures or sky-scraping facilities. The focus has been given on creating landscape architect connected with the surroundings. The overall frame has been formed by planting trees, and the rest of the detailed image has been made with peripheral elements in order for pedestrians to experience various views from distant to near view. This puts the feature of the space on a more flexible level so that it can be changed according to each user’s activities under comfortable and balanced atmosphere.
The entrance where pine trees and maples are planted is wide-open with lush trees. When entering inside, ornamental sense of wall fountain and elements that confine the space give comfortable touch of residence.
The scenery changes according to each point of view since multi-layered wall fountain has been combined with trees at the borderline in the south of the complex. Formidable sense of the wall has been reduced and natural stream flowing through the pedestrian road has also been created. For the children, there are facilities that induce more dynamic and free kinds of activities so that children can think of their own plays. It feels like a private garden rather than just functional one due to natural structure lines, clean pavement, planting of diverse kinds of shrubs and appropriately allocated viewing places.

An ecological forest unique to central region has been formed by the habitation for diverse creatures and the connection system of the severed ecosystem. Workshops and public hearings were held to attract citizens’ attention. The process of building involved people’s participation: Green Trust Movement and internet PR. It also provides positions as voluntary service and internship for maintenance. And event programs were introduced for various social classes -family, youth, elders and the disabled. Seoul Forest, where varied cultural and artistic experience is available, consists of Tukseom Culture & Art Park, Field Experience Center, Tukseom Ecological Forest, Wetland Ecological Park and Hangang Park.

• Basic Concept
- The previous 2-meter wide girder bridge were removed to give way to a natural-friendly wooden bridge of extended width. We introduced a cultural space and square on the overpass where various programs take place for local citizens.

Lotus root is connected to its petiole and edges of the leaf by joints. The entrance road of White Lotus Lake is like the root, linking the newly-built wooden formative arts, outer space and the existing deck.

The central stage was built like a lotus flower floating among the leaves, so that an event held on it could be watched from the surrounding walking deck and arch-type deck. Open-air concerts and festivals would create a park to draw local citizens and provide sights to tourists.

То secure а water-friendly space around the Citizen’s River, the children’s park inside the complex has been moved to the riverside, and the strolling road has been turned into a green space as a part of the river site. Thus, relatively lots of the riverside rest and leisure have been gained.
Peach blossom neighborhood park is where the Citizen’s River starts. Graywater, which has been treated at Gulpocheon(River) sewage disposal plant, are sent here to be the origin of a waterfall. A small pavilion in front of the pond provides a resting space or the view of the water fall or of the aquatic eco system.
In addition, citizens can naturally approach water in the park such as Tender Childeren’s Park, Flower Rapids Children’s Park and Bud Children’s Park. Around the waterway, diverse water plants are planted and decks are installed, so that the visitors can see pond skaters and fishes.
Each named as the River of Memory and River of Family, built at the sides of the outer circular highway and Jungdong main road are 4.5m high moundings instead of soundproof walls, creating a walking path and bicycle road connected with the Citizen’s River, thus enabling a stroll and exercise with the sound of streaming water in the background.
Just outside of Jungdong I.C. after leaving outer circular highway, one comes to encounter a square(space of festival) that gives an urban feel through a straight waterway and fountain, unlike the overall ecological atmosphere. An open field around the fountain has been designed for various events.

Life Athletics Park in Gapyeong is a sports park of a new concept emphasizing tradition and symbolism. Diverse roads have made it an interesting space, with planting plan considering visual and spatial landscape. Major spaces are a floor fountain in front, wall waterfall, stream, pine hill and multi-purpose playing field. A symbolic space has been introduced to the intersection of traffic and visual lines, making it the center of the park. It appeals with more active water landscape through the large-scale floor fountain of the square. The water running down from the wall waterfall has been made into a stream to achieve a natural water space. The small brook created along the slope fits the landscape and ecological environment. Wetland/pond has been built for nature study by the water/wetland plants. A walking path symbolizes the shape of a dragon, and facilities for exercise and rest have been arranged in several places. An observation tower of a traditional feel stands at the point with a fine view. Also, a foot massage area serves various purposes including function and landscape. Main trees consist of pine, korean fir, zelkova, dawn redwood, yew tree, Korean azalea, boxwood tree, Kurume azalea, aster koraiensis, pinks, big blue lily turf, cattail, day lily and etc.

The character of Korean traditional landscape is that it always centers around a equivocal, versatile space. Thus. Traditional Cultural Center has been designed to have three central courts with multi-meaning and multi-function on the outside. In Korean architecture, the best place is the central court, which absorbs the plus energy of the sun during the day and the minus energy of the moon at night to offer rich energy to the users. When a visitor experiences a pleasant feeling in the space created by a designer, it is because that he / she feels the energy of the fine site. This landscape plan adopts three courts and allocates each of them to three buildings. Conducting their own function, individual landscapes are connected to the other spaces through the opening of the wall. The master plan concentrates on the harmony of the independent and entile view, and for which a wall waterfall and waterway has been installed. A horizontal court and vertical walls join together to give spaciousness to the whole landscape.

Along with the formation of Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI), this is to provide workers and visitors in the building with pleasant and comfortable resting place and greenery, enhance the efficiency of KOPTI’s functionality as well as to give the workers enough opportunity to enjoy leisure activities. KOPTI is organized based on the plans of resting place centered on public use, environment-friendly external space considering ecological features, and planting plans considering locality and scenery. Work efficiency can be enhanced by making pleasingly familiar outdoor area, thus it can be the area’s landmark by establishing a specific space harmonious with surrounding buildings.

Seolleung Dailim Acrotel focuses on combining two distinctive motives. One basic concept is modernized exterior of the building as the offtce-tel in the city and the other is the sentiment of one’s own hometown. It focuss on Seolleung’s historical and geological elements. Likewise, the biggest concept here is to establish the identity of the building since it is in the vicinity of vibrant Tehran Street. Overall look on the space forms one big pond connecting the surroundings of the building with a waterway. Also, lumber deck and evergreen lawn are the main elements of the pavement. Another characteristic would be that planting full-size trees such as Japanese cornelian cherry, Chinese quince, and persimmon trees in each focal point. Overall space can be divided into facade, lower part of Piloti, mountain stream pond in the rear, terrace garden, walking path, and rooftop garden.

Facade
The spatial identity of the facade will be cultural space as the book cafe. Besides, a pond that is made to highlight the feature of the space so it catches the eyes of passengers at the same time. Moreover, other design products such as mill-stone and Korea’s totem poles provide distinctiveness to the monotonous grey building. Japanese cornelian cherry has been planted in the facade of the building, so the residents can enjoy exotic and mysterious atmosphere. At night, it is changed into symbolic space with beautiful night view by lighting street and underwater lamps.

Mountain stream pond in the back side
The existing lamps and stairs specialized for the disabled have been restructured into the wooden one. Water from a pond and a stream falling from the cracks between stones stays here and flows out; this creates such dynamic sense of a valley. The size is not big enough to inspire the sense of actual valley, so the extra effort has been made to overcome such shortcomings. Materials such as natural stones and reddish soil have been used to meet such goal.
Terrace garden
This is where the view that can be overlooked from the inside of the first-floor building is considered the most. Structures that may obstruct the view are avoided as much as possible so the scenery of vastly open lawn without any ornaments can be obtained. Natural scenery of Sunreung from afar also helps improve the view.

A novel, Korean-style space with a plan of planting, drainage, pipe line and facility for the roof garden of Korea University College of Law’s new building, It is the key point of green network that achieves an ecological effect through the improvement of an academic atmosphere and expansion of a green area. A symmetric space is created on either side of the axis made of a wild flower garden and rest area. A straight line presents a neat space with a roomy feel. Using the protruded central structure, it also has a small resting area and lawn square for a group gathering and small-scale seminar. Wood sidings of diverse designs and heights have been installed on the concrete exterior to make a various spaces of coziness, accentuating a tidy image by a standard fountain and figurative arts. Simple tree provide a seasonal, spacious feel, and evergreen species planted around the roof railing yield greenness, functioning as a screen. The planting plan includes white birch for the harmonization with exterior walls, bamboo, yew, crape myrtle, azaleas, warm-season grass and wild flower garden.

Plan Direction
Spatial Meaning Immanent in the Plaza and Newly Provided Function
The site emerges from the existing occupancy(an occupying action or object different from that of the urban plan) and earns a new status of a plaza. Given such a role, the space changes interacting with the surroundings. The basic direction is set around the process of spatial transition by the social energy, the entangled life in an urban space, and the differences or similarities among which the space will work as a mediator. To correspond to its future locality, several conceptual motives obtained from the transition were used to compose the elements of form, division and design.

Planting plan is divided for inside and outside of the plaza.
On the outside, tall deciduous trees were selected to surround the deck-type plaza, and on the inside the trees with long clear-length and big enough leaves to drape a long shade on its floor. We applied row-planting along the axis of a fixed concept to provide the space with function and notion, and simple pattern-planting of shrubs and plants to display a flat and wide square.

Located in Gwangjin-gu, the site of this project has the strong locality of Hangang(River) and Gwangnaru. But as a modem bridge like Gwangjingyo (Bri dge) emerges, Gwangnaru, yellow sail boats and willows on the riverside are now only exist in people’s memories. Architecture and landscape make ‘Culturescape’ , which means Gwangjin’s new landscape - new nature, new place and new life.
Being a part of an entire site, it was planned considering the whole sports park. Differentiated development plan was directed according to the research/analysis of the high level plan and similar facility. Linder the slogan of New Seoul, Our Hangang’, this space creates a new appearance of Gwangjin as a multi-complex putting together the ecology, history & culture, education and leisure.

Local cultural experience, industrial tour’ themed with Gossaum has been established, aiming at a key area of Gossaum culture’ embracing the national spirit and soul. As a tourism point of the complex recreational experience’, it brings a structural change to the individualized and simplified sightseeing business of Nam-gu, Gwangju City. A tour spot with a capability of continuous growth has been created to develop cultural tourism space that preserves natural environment and cultural remains. Positioning of the Gossaum inheritance complex means the position it holds in the perception of a visitor. To win the heart of the actual and potential visitors, it is essential to work on the service and marketing lined with the positioning strategy. Thus, the focus is laid on a stay-over trip rather than a one-day tour, seeking the educational, entertainment and recreational side.

The subject is 9.5km and 8.2km from Gwangju city hall and Namgu office of Gwangju, and has Hyocheon Station Area in the northeast, Apchon-dong in the northwest and the border line of Gwangju and Naju in the south. Natural vegetation rarely exists, since its hillside is engaged in farming. Overall, it presents a cozy atmosphere being surrounded by forest on three sides except the southern plain.

Main Space Planning
Gossaum performance, indoor program in the Cinematic Experience Center and the traditional cultural property Buyongjeong achieve organic harmonization. Gossaum ground, the main theme and center of the site, is located in front of the Gossaum inheritance complex. The axis of the experience center naturally penetrates the restoration area of traditional landscape surrounding Buyongjeong, which is placed between Gossaum ground and experience center.
• Gossaum Ground
- A lawn ground functions as an open space and secures sufficient space considering the various sizes of Goflength 15m, 25m, 50m). It seeks an efficiency in space use, being closely linked with Gossaum inheritance center and warehouse. It is easy to access to the existing village and on both sides of the road are stood seven Jangseungs, symbolizing guardians’ and the 7th of July’. Farm music ground was arranged according to the musical group’s marching direction.
• Buyongjeong
- It restores the traditional landscape by installing a square site and a circular island on the center, reflecting Buyongjeong s background and meaning. An axis reaching out from it links a space of introduction-development-tum-con-clusion, open-air stage, wooden bridge and the reservoir beyond.
• Ground for the Prayer to the Moon
- Themed with Daljip Tae-ugi(Moon house burning) performed on the lunai’ new year's day, this space presents an interesting atmosphere with the roads of flag and rope.
• Visual Experience Hall
- It seeks a mass design using traditional beauty by harmonizing the horizon-tality and verticality, and builds a unity of fullness and emptiness through spatial communication of the interior and exterior.

Tire memorial center sees the coexistence with nature, in other words, the compromise against damaged nature and the disaster resulting from it as the erosion control. As an open space with elevation • section plan as to the surroundings, the encountering space of human and nature has the basic concepts in securing an atrium, rooftop park, maximum view, nature-friendly materials and diverse traffic flow that links inside and outside. As for the design concept, ‘infrascape’ has been compounded by the words infra and scape: the former means the function of erosion control as a basic facility, the later the function as the landscape and leisure. Erosion Control Park in Pohang will grow as the foundation of the city; its symbolism and functionality would harmonize with tourism and relaxation building the emotions.

In year- 2004, Sangjogam Dinosaur museum and the biggest dinosaur tower were completed in Goseong, where is famous as a world’s prominent dinosaur fossil field. These spread a clear image of Goseong,; ‘the land of dinosaurs’, domestically and internationally, and create Dinopark in Danghangpo and Sangjogam with the passion and creativity of locals. It will be a place of experience where one can enjoy, learn and feel the Earth, life and environment problem in this never-seen-before world of dinosaurs.

Approach to the Expo Exhibition Hall Design
The overall concept of the hall is to praise the imagination on dinosaurs: ‘Dinosaur, Imagine and Feel’ . Gyeongnam Goseong Dinosaur World Expo 2006 divides the hall into four unique spaces and aims an organic and individual presentation through themes classified by space. The basic target is to optimize and maximize it to utilize the limited area.
