River banks are described as right or left
assumed that the writer is facing downstream
it being
(j) Abbreviations
(i)	Authorized abbreviations only will be used
(ii)	Authorized abbreviations will only be used if the
writer is satisfied that there is no possibility of
the meaning being mistaken or not understood by
the person or persons to whom the message is being
(iii)	The abbreviation for a calendar month or day of the
week will be the first three letters of the name of
the month or day eg —
January Jan Monday Mon
(iv)	A full list of the abbreviations authorized for use
in the Army is given in Field Service Pocket Book,
Part I Pamphlet No 3 but the following are all
